Biography
Gretchen Greene is the Data Science Group Leader for the NIST Materials Measurement Laboratory Office of Data and Informatics. Her career has spanned across several research areas with focus on large scale data system architecture. She currently co-leads the cross-organizational modernization for NIST’s Open Access to Research, an optimized infrastructure for data management, curation, and dissemination to external stakeholders. Gretchen is an active member of the International Research Data Alliance Technical Advisory Board and before working at NIST, she served for many years as Chief Engineer for Data Management Systems at the Space Telescope Science Institute where she was responsible for the design and operations of multiple space missions data processing and archive systems including the Hubble Space Telescope and James Webb Space Telescope. Her team is currently engaged in NIST planning to support data science in response to the CHIPS Act for US innovation in semiconductor technology.
