Michael Eastwood received a B.A. in chemistry and a D.Phil. in physical and theoretical chemistry from the University of Oxford, where he helped develop microscopic theories for strongly correlated electron systems. Prior to joining D. E. Shaw Research, Mike was a Postdoctoral Research Associate with Peter Wolynes at the University of California, San Diego. There he worked on both protein folding and the glass transition, but mostly on methods to optimize energy functions for protein structure prediction.
