Paul Nowoczynski
Biography
Paul Nowoczynski is a seasoned professional in the realm of distributed storage systems and is currently the founder and primary contributor of NIOVA. NIOVA is a distributed storage system designed for cloud and HPC, focusing on node-local storage capabilities. With an extensive 20-year background in distributed storage stacks, Paul has gained valuable experience implementing solutions across diverse domains, including high-performance computing (HPC) archives, burst buffers, cloud storage, and content delivery.

Paul's contributions to the field have been notable. One of his noteworthy achievements is the development of the "Infinite Memory Engine" (IME), an innovative storage system that boasts exceptional throughput across various types of workloads. Additionally, he has introduced concepts such as parallel log-structuring (PLFS) and non-deterministic construction of erasure-coded groups (Zest & IME). These concepts have made significant strides in advancing the field of distributed storage, bringing about improved performance through the removal of read-modify-writes in the write pipeline.
