Biography
Jörg Schumacher obtained a Diploma in Physics from Philipps University Marburg in 1994 and a PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Potsdam in 1997. From 1998 to 2005 he was a Postdoctoral Researcher in Marburg and at Yale University and obtained a habilitation and venia legendi in 2005. From 2005 to 2013, he was a Professor for Theoretical Fluid Mechanics at TU Ilmenau, since 2013 a full professor for Fluid Mechanics. He received a Feodor Lynen Fellowship of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in 2001, a Heisenberg Professorship of the Deutsche Forschungsgemenischaft in 2008, and the Thuringian Research Award in 2009. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and received an ERC Advanced Grant in 2022. His current research subjects are high-performance computing of convective turbulence, machine learning, and quantum computing of fluid flows.
