Mike Townsley joined ExxonMobil in 1999 with a B.S. in Engineering Math and Computer Science and a M.Eng in Computer Engineering, both from the University of Louisville. Mike served in numerous software development and small team leadership assignments across a variety of disciplines including subsurface imaging, basin modeling, and well operations. In 2010, Mike led the development team taking internally developed imaging technologies, optimizing their performance on our internal systems, and putting them behind an easy-to-use interface enabling business users to apply them at scale. Through early 2020, Mike was responsible for the acquisition, support, and maintenance of ExxonMobil’s fleet of HPC systems. In 2022, after a two year assignment working in ExxonMobil’s development planning organization, Mike again returned as the Senior Principal for HPC. In this role, Mike works across the larger organization to promote and provide guidance for the effective application of HPC to business challenges.
