Biography
Dr. Tufo is a professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He has made contributions to the areas of high-performance and high-productivity computing, scientific application development, parallel algorithms and architectures, high-order numerical methods, scalable solvers, cluster and cloud computing, and immersive visualization; led several high-end computing efforts, including bringing one of the world’s first IBM BlueGene systems to Boulder in early 2005, being project manager and principal architect of the Janus supercomputer (#31 on the June 2010 Top500 list) and its co-designed facility, and leading the effort to create a high-performance research network for the campus; and is a two-time recipient of the Gordon Bell Prize. Recently, he became co-director of the “Center for Micromorphic Multiphysics Porous and Particulate Materials Simulations within Exascale Computing Workflows” funded by the DOE PSAAP program.
