Biography
Dr. Santiago Núñez-Corrales is the Quantum Lead at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, Faculty Affiliate at the Faculty Affiliate, Illinois Quantum Information Science and Technology Center and Senior Personnel at the Hybrid Quantum Architectures and Networks, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He completed his Ph.D. in Informatics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where he developed mathematical physics and computational methods to unveil statistical physics aspects governing complex multiscale stochastic systems, or strongly-coupled, heterogeneous open systems whose description requires events at multiple scales and whose action is dictated by irreversible thermodynamics.
Dr. Núñez-Corrales’ work focuses on realistic simulation methods for quantum devices, the development high-level programming models beyond quantum circuits, finding new abstract machine models for quantum computing, performing HPC-QPU integration, designing, and implementing distributed quantum computing protocols, and exploring cross-cutting applications of quantum computing across multiple science domains.
