John Salmon was involved in algorithm design, software development, and computer architecture at D. E. Shaw Research. He received a Ph.D. in physics from Caltech, an M.S. in physics from the University of California, Berkeley, and S.B. degrees in physics and in electrical engineering and computer science from MIT. He came to D. E. Shaw Research from Cable & Wireless, where, as a Senior Software Architect, he worked on delivering web content from a network of thousands of machines on six continents. Prior to working on internet infrastructure, John was a Senior Scientist at Caltech, working on parallel computation and N-body simulations of the large scale structure of the universe.
