Minna Palmroth is a professor in computational space physics at the University of Helsinki (2017-), formerly at the Finnish Meteorological Institute, where she served as a Head of Department (2011–) and a research professor (2013–). In 2018, she won a Finnish Centre of Excellence in Research of Sustainable Space, where she is a Director.
Palmroth has received the prestigious ERC grant twice, Starting in 2007 and Consolidator in 2015. Of her scientific achievements, the most important is Vlasiator, the world’s most accurate space environment simulation. Her research group is among the top in the Finnish high-performance computing.
Palmroth is holds important national and international positions of trust: she was, e.g., the Chair of the Space Advisory Group for the European Commission, and is a member of the INFRAG group for EuroHPC. She is highly active both in outreach and societal impact, and is frequently featured in the media.
