Biography
Mark has worked at EPCC since 1998, mainly on the academic and HPC side of the Centre. Previously, he worked at the UK Met Office, and at the University of Manchester, where he also studied for a PhD in parallel numerical algorithms.

Mark's principal responsibilities in EPCC are in the areas of research and education. His current research interests include benchmarking, parallel algorithms, parallel programming APIs, and novel uses of HPC. He is currently working on the EPiGRAM and PRACE projects. Mark acts as EPCC’s representative on the OpenMP Architecture Review Board, and is a former chair of the OpenMP Language Committee, having had overall responsibility for Versions 2.5 and 3.0 of the OpenMP specification.

Mark is a member of the team responsible for EPCC’s MSc in High Performance Computing, acting as co-ordinator for the Threaded Programming module, and is EPCC's representative for the Centre for Doctoral Training in Pervasive Parallelism. Mark also runs training courses for the ARCHER HPC service.
