Biography
Tobias Weinzierl is an Associate Professor in High Performance and Scientific Computing at Durham University’s Computer Science department. He graduated from Technische Universität München (TUM) in Germany, and holds a habilitation from TUM as well.

Tobias’ research orbits around the efficient implementation of multiscale and multigrid methods, adaptive mesh refinement and parallelisation paradigms for solvers of elliptic partial differential equations. Today, he spices that with additional work on hyperbolic systems, programming models and Lagrangian (particle) methods. His work focuses on fundamental algorithms from scientific computing and state-of-the-art mathematics, and he always asks how to translate these into working, good code. Tobias’ research influences several open source projects which in turn are used in computational physics, earth sciences and engineering.
