A Scalable Optical Switching Fabric for Terabit-Ethernet Datacenter Networks

DescriptionTerabit Ethernet lies at the heart of next-generation data center networks. Since WDM must be used to implement a terabit link, electronic switching is neither efficient nor scalable for constructing a packet switch with terabit links.
In this talk, we will present an optical switching fabric for constructing a Terabit-Ethernet datacenter network. The switch fabric does not need an electronic scheduler and can switch WDM packets simultaneously without using wavelength converters. It has a low implementation cost and can scale to a thousand ports easily. The talk also includes a discussion on our effort to prototype such a switch.
