Biography
Mohammed AL Farhan is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Extreme Computing Research Center (ECRC) at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), where he works with David E. Keyes on developing scalable algorithms exploiting data sparsity. Mohammed is part of the Hierarchical Computations on Manycore Architectures (HiCMA) research group. Prior to that, Al Farhan was a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Innovative Computing Laboratory (ICL) at the University of Tennessee, where he worked with Jack Dongarra on developing algorithms for dense linear algebra on distributed, GPU-accelerated systems. Farhan was part of the world's leading Exascale Computing Project (ECP) of the United States Department of Energy: Software for Linear Algebra Targeting Exascale (SLATE). His main contribution to open source is to the SLATE math library: https://bitbucket.org/icl/slate/. Mohammed received PHD'19 and MS'13 in Computer Science from KAUST, where he was part of the ECRC working with David E. Keyes on developing performance-centric algorithms for high performance computing, in the context of unstructured grid PDEs and the Fast Multipole Method. His dissertation title is: unstructured computations on emerging architectures. In a previous life, AL Farhan was a Software Engineer at Saudi Electricity Company and Saudi Aramco. Before that, he received BS'12 in Computer Science from King Faisal University (KFU).
