Biography
Elia Merzari is a professor at the Pennsylvania State University. Before Penn State, Dr. Merzari worked at Argonne National Laboratory for 10 years, serving in several roles within the Nuclear Energy Advanced Modeling and Simulation (NEAMS) program. Dr. Merzari's research relies on predictive Multiphysics large-scale simulations of nuclear systems to improve our physical understanding and ultimately design safer and more efficient nuclear reactors. Dr. Merzari has worked on multiple Top500 supercomputing systems, including Earth Simulator, Tsubame, Intrepid, Mira, Titan, Summit, and Frontier. This research has led to several including the American Nuclear Society (ANS) Landis Young Member Engineering Achievement Award, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)'s George Westinghouse Silver Medal, the ANS Bal-Raj Sehgal Memorial Award, and two R&D100 awards. Dr. Merzari is a fellow of ANS and ASME.
